Pau d’Arco tea has been used for many years for the variety of different uses and benefits it has been known to have. The main reason for this is due to the many antibacterial and antifungal components that this herbal remedy contains. However, another great benefit to be taken from Pau d’Arco is that it can help lower blood pressure which makes it highly beneficial to those that suffer from diseases like diabetes.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease that can develop in the body and cause high blood sugar levels. This disease affects a person when the body can no longer make enough insulin in the body to absorb glucose and use it as energy. The sugars then begin to build up in the blood stream. As it gets worse, this can lead to more damage in the body, particularly with the nerves and vessels of the blood. Some causes that can lead to the development of diabetes are genetics, certain drugs and medications, as well as infection and diseases. There are three different types of diabetes, and each can affect the body in a different way. In order to properly assess what treatment is best for you, you must first start having a physician diagnose what type of diabetes you suffer from.

Type 1 Diabetes

The first type of diabetes is Type 1 Diabetes. This type occurs when the body’s immune system begins to destroy cells in the body that are responsible for producing insulin. Type 1 can affect any age or gender, though it is typically developed by people under 40 years of age. It is usually caused by environmental factors or poor diet.

Type 2 Diabetes

As the most commonly found type of diabetes, Type 2 diabetes usually affects those that are middle-aged or older, though it can occasionally affect children as well. People that are overweight are more at risk for this type, though it is mostly caused based on a genetic history of diabetics in the family. The problems brought on by type 2 diabetes, like other types, is insulin deficiency. With type 2, the deficiency is usually the result of the body producing too little insulin or building a resistance to insulin.

Gestational Diabetes

The last form of diabetes is gestational diabetes, which occurs during pregnancy. There are a small percentage of women that develop diabetes while pregnant. This risk increases by obesity or if there is a history of gestational diabetes in the family. This type usually goes away after the delivery, however there are some cases where it becomes permanent.

Dangers of Diabetes

As the disease progresses, the damages done to the nerves and blood vessels of the body lead to risks of heart disease, blindness, kidney disease, stroke, and loss of sensation and feeling in the body. Further complications are depression, loss of mobility, and amputations.

How Pau d’Arco Tea Helps

For those that suffer from diabetes, Pau d’Arco tea can help relieve some of the symptoms such as high blood pressure. This is due to an active component found in this herbal tea that is called tecomine. Tecomine not only helps lower blood pressure but it can also work to counter some other mild affects of diabetes such as various pains or inflammation. You can use this tea as an herbal remedy for diabetes by consuming one cup of Pau d’Arco a day regularly, though it is not advised to drink this if you are pregnant or currently on any medications. It is advised to contact your physician prior to using Pau d’Arco tea to be sure that it is the best choice for you.
